But unlike, for example, in football there are no seasons, so boxers must train all the year. Boxers need agility, strength and speed, so they need to eat well. What do boxers eat?
Carbohydrates – boxing is an anaerobic activity, so boxers should eat products which will provide them high energy. 45-55% of boxer’s diet should be made up of carbohydrates. But carbohydrates derived from bread and pasta aren’t useful for boxers, only carbohydrates which give slowly releasing energy are appropriate.
Proteins – help to repair muscles and to increase their strenght. Muscles are extremely important for boxers. Meat and eggs are appropriate sources of protein, as well as protein drinks, which should be only taken during traning. 30-40% of boxer’s diet should be made up of proteins.
Fats – Omega-3 and Omega-6 fats help to keep body in working order. Moreover fats help in certain vitamin absorbtion. Monounsaturated fats derived from seeds, olives, avocado and other products should made up 15% of boxer’s daily consumption.
Water – for boxer’s it is easy to become dehydrated, so it is necessary to include 8-10 glasses of water in their daily diet. During the fight water consumption should be increased. Isotonic drinks help to maintain fluid balance.
Supplements – it is crucial to take all necassary vitamins and minerals, but of course they will never provide you the same level of nutrients that you get from eating food. Your body can only absorb a certain amount of nutrients and the rest goes to waste.
